a few weeks ago it was will's 40th bday...
we celebrated by having (pretty much) a reunion
of friends from hartford art school (plus family...)
and it was the biggest party we have had in our house.
there was art-making everywhere... in the kitchen,
in the bathroom, in the red room (which i basically
made into a studio for kids with tons of stuff to create with)
he also took over my outside studio... yes, the one he built:)
he hung a beautiful show of paintings, a series he's been working
on for a long time. it was his first solo show!
here's a little glimpse of it after he hung the works...
they are portraits of his friends and family...
with the name written in a script that a friend's great
uncle created many years ago. the colors, shapes
and feeling of the painting are all symbolic of the
personality of the person - the essence of the individual.
plus a birthdate...
here's mine:)
at the party, he took a photo of each person in front of
their paintings... i think he captured me pretty well...
especially the colors!!!
(these are the covers to my new watercolor journal)
i am not going to just journal when i am far away from
home - i am now going to try and keep a somewhat
daily drawing/writing diary.
so here's me - moved back into my beloved art making space...
not that i don't just do it all over the house. i love having a minimal
studio with only the supplies i am working with at the moment
and plenty of room to fill it up with newly painted works!
haven't worked on hanuman in a while... this just may be the
one that takes years to finish - like most of my big works.
brand new gessoed hardboard frames... can't wait to sink
my creative teeth into them... i have some ideas,
but not enough time.
so i continue to work on small 'studies' to see where
i want my art to take me. i did this lakshmi (thanks rupa!) mostly at
school over the past couple of days.
once more, just playing with color and ghostlike images.
namaste!
ps. stay tuned for a giveaway.
as soon as my counter hits 13000
i will do one.

Lovely! I love your paintings of Indian Gods/Godesses! The last pic is that of Laxmi I think (not Saraswathi?). Laxmi's mode of transportation is elephants while Saraswathi's is Swan. No offense meant, just asking :)
thanks for catching that rupa - i changed it:) i knew it was her, just a moment of brain freeze while writing it... i've been smitten with her for a while now:) wish you lived near by too!
