kitchen altar, gratitude and hanuman

 just some random stuff...
my kitchen altar is getting quite large...  we moved our kitchen
table to the side because Will made us a butcher block countertop
that we now eat many of our meals at...
and i didn't want this table to collect all of our junk and
unpaid bills, so i have claimed it as a place to put
beautiful things... gifts, artwork, music instruments...
and plants...
i work at a pretty "thankless" job... teaching middle schoolers
art, compassion and other things... occasionally i will get a
"thank you ms. mazzucco" as one of them is leaving the classroom
(mostly the younger ones...) Honestly, i don't do
it for the pat on the back... BUT... once a year, for teacher
appreciation day, the mothers at my school give us a big breakfast
and make it for us! they set up the lunchroom with flowers,
and all of the brunchy kinds of food that i love... including
made to order omelets. and... they serve us!!!
this is part of the invitation for this - they go around and give
us flowers. she let me pick the color, so of course i chose
hot pink... also - last year, they gave us white cotton robes
and had people give us 10 minute chair massages - in a
special classroom with low lights and soft music...
they rock. those acts of gratitude that are aimed at me
don't go unnoticed... and it's as important to notice
the ones coming at me as it is to be aware of the gratitude
i have for others...
still working on hanuman... coming closer with the face,
but still not quite there. wasn't sure whether to stick with
realism or the flat colors with outline, but thinking i am
going to stick with adding more detail.
who knows... it's a struggle, but a subject i have wanted
to depict for a long time. i really want to capture the
devotion and love that he emanates... but that
will hopefully come as i continue to add layers
and words in the background.
oh, and maybe a ram and sita outline on either side
of him....

hoping your spring has sprung and
some random goodness is going on in your lives...
