am working again on a painting that i started almost
a year ago... inspired after my trip to finish him...
he's a mixture of a statue i saw at a temple in boston
and one i saw on the way to dharamshala...
today, i carved this three headed ganesh:)
during my prep periods, when i should have been
prepping for the student art show...
this is the printed version. the image comes from
a wooden relief sculpture i saw at the craft emporium
in delhi... i wasn't supposed to be taking pictures...
oh well!
and this is one i started of saraswati...
it's a god/goddess kind of week;)

Absolutely loving these!
Your linocuts are wonderful!
Your stamps are just phenomenal and so intricate! I took it up briefly after being inspired by Genine's rubber carving. I haven't done much with it lately. Yours are inspiring me again, although I don't know how you manage to carve such intricate details! May I ask if you draw the image directly on the lino and start carving? Your lino looks different too, it looks red where as mine is grey. On a related note, I saw Gods/Godess wood blocks at Anokhi.com, asked my niece in India to pick them up from their store for me. Now I see you are carving them yourself right here, what a fantastic job you have done. Sorry for the long post :)
Sorry, I just came back to tell you that the red color looking one was really grey lino with ink on it I think? duh me! I still just love how crisp the images are. How I wish I could learn these carvings and other art from you!
thanks m. and s.!!!
rupa, i use "easy cut rubber" which can be found on dickblick.com and i use a number 2 'v' linocutter - it carves like butter, so not hard to get details, but i've been doing it for years so have had lots of practice about how far to cut and how hard to push... i hope to see yours at some point! yes, genine does beautiful stamps - i think she uses those white erasers, which i don't think hold up as long as the rubber.
thanks for your posts - it's so nice to see that people are responding to my art - otherwise, it's very lonely in the studio:)
warm wishes, on a cold rainy day (at least here it is...)
