*during one of henry rollin's talk shows he goes on this diatribe about how americans think they have so many problems and in his own awesomely funny/serious way, he says, "you think you got problems, go to India... Americans have inconveniences...) I am probably not quoting it right, but it's got the sentiment of his speech...

so, this morning, i was being inconvenienced... in a few ways and luckily, i stopped my ranting and stated just that fact.... out loud. then i sat down to eat a wonderful little breakfast...

and became grateful for:
all the hidden work that went into my egg + cheese with trader joe's waffles + syrup
i thanked everyone from the chickens who laid the eggs to the people who packaged the food, all the way to the friendly workers at the danbury trader joe's.

i also was grateful for...
the silence during my meal
my companion angelo who stared at me while i ate
having the luxury to eat a warm breakfast

and even though i was inconvenienced,
i was able to send birthday wishes to my dad overnight (thank you fedex)
drive to cvs to get photos made into a collage
and drive back into the garage at our more than adequate home
talk to my mom really quick on a cell phone...
and say i love you to will.
did i say i was inconvenienced???

*this isn't meant to belittle people with real problems, just a little reminder to be thankful the next time you are stuck on line at the post office or drop a bag of groceries with eggs in it
or your cell phone battery dies in the middle of a conversation:)

thank you thich nhat hahn
and valerie:)

i love the deep red wooden chest! i don't know, but it struck me as 'so tibetan'! thanks for leaving a comment in my blog. i visited your etsy shop because i wanted to buy one of your small 'Om' paintings. But it seems none is available now.
Anyway, i am also particularly hooked on tibetan buddhism. And the first introduction to buddhist writings were Thich Nhat Than's books.
keep well in the journey...

One way to open the senses is t view film like Slumdog Millionnaire. Another way is to go to India and experience reality for yourself form a local's point of view. Different ways of learning exist, provided you remain open to them.
