white tara finished color 3'x4'

spent all day filling in little shapes with color
and watching Pema paint (his hand is in this painting as much as mine is...)
learned how to blend colors
and it feels like blending with tar...
i can do this technique with every paint imaginable with quite proficiency
but this was so difficult.
it was a humbling experience
(now i can completely relate to my students who often say, "you make it look so easy!")
... as well as learning not to point at my painting with my toe:)

on a side note...
i witnessed a mugging today and came within inches of the
guy who grabbed a woman's cell phone + ipod...
thankfully i didn't see him hit her in the face
but as he ran by, our eyes locked...
it was like witnessing instant karma
as the police van swerved around the corner
and caught the man.
please be safe and careful
and aware of your
surroundings.

The painting is beautiful!!
Nothing like those flash moments for instantaneous lessons that hit deep into the soul - reminding us that we are all One, dark and light.

i am awed by this, jennifer... i watched the white tara video... wow. all of those people painting... what kind of paint is it that you're using? and how long have you been working on it?

thanks karin!
yes... we are all one - have been getting many more hints at that lately... in a surreal way.

XOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOX to you too will:)

Lynne,
that is my thangka painting class with Pema Rinzin in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. i have been studying with him for over a year now... some of them have been there for 2+ years. i have been working on White Tara for a few months, but only on select saturdays + mondays, as it's hard to get in to the city sometimes. most of the paints are ground up stone that Pema and other students prepared for us. first we learn to draw the Buddha, then we sort of got assigned different deities to paint. it has changed my life significantly...
