ArtBeats 09

this is what i have been doing
instead of blogging lately, or being in my studio...
it is the 6th annual student art exhibition
that i prepared, installed and took down
all in one week!
both sides of the gymnasium are covered
1/2 belongs to me and the other 1/2 to the lower school art teacher.
not only did we do this, but during
the opening reception, our artist in residence
performed with 130 of our students on stage
playing drums and singing african songs! see new
post for a video of that...

this was my favorite painting done by an 8th grader...
and today, to my surprise, she left it at the front office
with instructions for the administrative assistant to give
it to me as a gift.
that made my week... so well worth all of the hard work...
with so little help or show of appreciation.
she took each of these things off of my desk
to create her painted still life...

the 8th grade community recycled project with the accompanying
video i created of the process involved with the project
by far, the coolest project i have ever done!

native american inspired art by 6th graders and 8th graders...

cuna molas made out of paper by 4th graders

a rangoli design made by a 5th grade class
carved rubber and stamped with acrylic paint
to make a collaborative design
of course, inspired by my india trip

ceramic totem poles by 7th graders
each student created an animal head
and we linked them together using holes in the clay
and dowels attached to stands...
each wrote a story about their animal and a made up myth too.

the "park/garden" project by 6th graders
each created their own landscaped garden or park
using natural materials, found objects, recycled stuff...
can you tell that this was one of my favs?

interpretive mandala project by 8th graders
ok... yes, this was my favorite too,
but i also loved the one made of wire mesh and hot glue!
each student could choose whatever material they made their mandala
out of. some of them were so wacky and cool!!!

altared book sculpture by 7th grader.
too cool for words.
