ArtBeats Student Art Show at Ridgefield Academy

i survived another one of my student art shows... this year over 3000 pieces displayed (between
the two of us art teachers) this is what i came back to school and immediately started working on after my retreat...

this was an amazing joseph cornell/frida kahlo self portrait box done by a 7th grader

the mandalas this year were so much more special due to my experience watching the monks do the sand mandala at the Aldrich... this was one of my favorites...

ok, everyone knows i love elephants, but this aboriginal bark painting is just too cool...

this project was a first... "ART HOUSES"... students chose a postcard of an artist's work and incorporated the image somehow into their bird house... the color, shape, imagery... whatever they wanted. this one was inspired by kandinsky and just stole the show...

yes, i'm obsessed with birds, but the 3rd graders really were studying states - get it - state bird ceramic sculptures:)

my most colorful bulletin board ever... adinkra stamps and abstract circle drawings.

my favorite journal entry by a 7th grader in their lotus fold hanging journals...

another first time project inspired by Ms. Haness, my high school art teacher. they had to come up with an emotion or concept and illustrate it with a mask and hand using color, words, etc... the 5th graders LOVED wrapping each others' hands in plaster wrap - a fun project for all...

this is a two color andy warhol pop art inspired relief print (try to say that 10 times fast!) it took the kids weeks and weeks to finish this project - but it was worth it! this wasn't the best one, but of course it's close to my heart - it's GANESH! she is Indian - so it had nothing to do with my other obsession.... i swear!

need i say anything for this 8th grader's flying self portrait?!
